Our History

FISBA Mitarbeiter bearbeitet Mikrolinsen

It all began in 1957, when Waldemar Strietzel, Christian Fischbacher Sen. and Hennoch Altherr founded a company to produce optical precision instruments. From the very start, the entire team was focused on delivering innovative and reliable solutions to customers. Much has changed since then, but not our credo: "Spirit of Partnership”.

2023

In February 2023 FISBA receives the ISO13485 certificate for medical devices.

2020

FISBA strengthens its presence on the Asian market, opening its Chinese sales agency, FISBA (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., in Shanghai.

2019

Market launch of the FISBA READYBeam™, a compact laser source with multiple wavelengths. It’s ready to use!

2015

Launch of the FISBA FISCam™, a customer-specific high resolution microcamera with a diameter of under 2 mm and integral lighting.

Having expanded to more than 300 employees, FISBA OPTIK AG is rebranded as FISBA AG.

2014

FISBA OPTIK AG sets up a production plant in Tucson (Arizona), FISBA LLC, strengthening its position in the USA.

2013

Market launch of FISBA RGBeam™, a miniaturized laser module that can be adapted to individual customer requirements.

2011

Development and series production of the CMOS video-endoscope for one of our customers in the medical sector. Lenses with 0.7 mm diameter and camera chips measuring less than 1 mm² open up new areas of endoscopy for FISBA OPTIK AG.

2005

FISBA OPTIK AG applies precision molding technology to the production of complex geometric shapes such as aspheres, freeform geometry, and diffractive structures.

2004

Market launch of FAC (Fast Axis Collimation) lenses for the collimation of high performance laser diodes, beam shaping systems, micro-illumination systems, and light focusing systems.

2004

A project involving OEM laser modules for applying images onto plates goes into series production, forming the basis for a successful long-term relationship with another valued customer.

2002

FISBA OPTIK AG produces up to 100,000 optical components a month and installs a second coating machine (Syrus Pro 1100).

The company now employs around 300 staff.

1998

Berlin: Foundation of FISBA OPTIK GmbH, now FISBA Photonics GmbH.

Development and distribution of in-house devices such as the diode laser. Investment in in-house coating technology with the APS 900, an ion-based coating system.

1993

FISBA OPTIK AG wins the Innovation Award for Swiss Technology at the Hannover Messe for its diode laser.

1965

Start of production of micro-optics for endoscopy.

1958

Christian Fischbacher Sen. acquires the entire company shareholding and changes the name to FISBA OPTIK AG. The company employs around 30 employees.

1957

Waldemar Strietzel, Christian Fischbacher Sen., and Hennoch (Heni) Altherr found an optical precision instrument company under the name of Altherr-Strietzel AG. The Company’s headquarters are located at Rorschacher Strasse 109a in St. Gallen, Switzerland, and it is here that the optical systems are designed and the first prototypes built.
